Permanent Fold in a Rib
What is a permanent fold in ribbing? Where would you use it? Why do you need it?
Mostly in trims at the neckline, sleeves, mittens, gloves, and socks.
I tried many versions of it and here is how it works - it is amazing when used in 1x1, 2x2, 3x3, and possibly 4x4 rib. Simple knit and purl rib. I have not tried it with any other decorative ribbing yet but if you did or will let me know if it worked and how you liked it. I use a minimum of 3 rows and a maximum of 5 to 6. Why? It's a double fabric material with some "missing" stitches ( the ones that you slip) so the fold itself is not as hefty. It is thinned-out material at the very edge of the trim If it makes any sense.
IF WORKED IN THE ROUND
Repeat this round anywhere from 3 to 6 times: knit all the knit stitches of the rib, and slip all the purl stitches of the rib purlwise with the yarn in front.
IF WORKED FLAT
Repeat the next two rows as many times as you see fit - I suggest 2 minimum ( you don't have to repeat them in tandem, if you want/need an odd number of rows):
Row 1: knit all the knit stitches in the ribbing, and slip all the purl stitches in the ribbing purlwise with the yarn in front.
Row 2: purl all the purl stitches of the rib, and slip all the knit stitches purlwise with the yarn at the back of the work.
Please let me know if you know this technique, if you used it, if you like it or if you don't like it.
